Being a legislator is as hard as you want it to be. You can do the minimum and accomplish less, or immerse yourself in everything, study ahead, and do your utmost to represent your district. I have never been one to shy away of hard work- I look for it. I am on 3 committees (one more than expected), I'm carrying 8 bills (3 more than the "maximum"), and I'm doing the difficult work of stakeholder outreach on each of my bills. When I ran for this office, I pledged to the district that I would listen, be respectful, and consider all of the ideas that are presented to me. I am not afraid to take on tough issues and speak truth to power. This doesn't always result in satisfied constituents. Sometimes the harder you work to find the middle ground, the harder some stakeholders work to derail you.
